Manikgad is located in Raigad district of Maharashtra. It was built to oversee the trade route from Maval (Pune) to coastal ports. The fort is in complete ruins. A big rock-cut cistern on the fort is called the “Darya take” . One can also find a small Shiva Linga and few small rock-cut cisterns. The Ganesh Darwaza is the only standing structure on the fort.
The fort presents a very commanding view of the valley surrounding it, with Karnala pinnacle and Prabalgad fort visible prominently. Though and easy trail the hike requires a high level of endurance as the route is long.
